Music Lessons

For quite some time, we have received inquiries, mainly from people outside of Louisiana, to begin offering music lessons through the net in compressed audio files called MP3s, which can be downloaded and archived for future review. We realize that people would like to take lessons, but being so far away, are unable to. At first thought, we didn't think anyone would be interested in this notion, but now after more demand, for the first time, we are offering "downloadable music lessons." An interesting technique will be that the student will be able to converse through email with the instructor, asking questions and even sending his/her own recordings through email to be reviewed and analyzed if desired.

Lesson 1 contains the Pine Leaf Boy Two Step and La Branche de Murier, two songs off the new CD, that are a bit hard to disect. Each song is broken down into parts and the nuances of each song are explained in detail. Click here for a sample (1.8 mb file size) or click here to listen to a clip of the song with the full band from the CD

Lesson 2 contains two more songs off the CD: La Belle Josette and Bosco Blues. These two songs are also more advanced and teach minor melody and blues rhythm.

Lesson 3 contains two awesome songs that are not on the CD: the very popular Flammes D'Enfer with all three parts, and La Valse de 'Tit Oiseau in the key of F, a difficult key for anyone.

Lesson 4 contains an old Creole tune called Joe Pitre a Deux Femmes (Joe Pitre has two wives) which is a fun, somewhat easy melody to play. The second tune in the lesson is called La Robe Barré which is another old Creole tune by Amede Ardoin, which he called Madame Etienne. The rhythm of this waltz is strange and is a little harder to catch on to. The left hand bass is very important in this tune.

Lesson 5 contains "songs in the push." By that, I mean that I'm teaching Quelle Etoile, a song by Shirley Bergeron. It's a fun tune that is pretty hard to play, and not often played because it's so high to sing. The following song is Viens me Chercher (Come and Get Me) by Iry LeJeune. It's inspired also by Amede Ardoin's "Tante Aline," and is one of the prettiest waltzes in Cajun music, I think.

Each lesson is approximately 30 minutes in length and contains 2 songs in English. In addition, lesson songs may be requested through email. After payment is received, the lesson of your selection will be emailed to you in a single-track MP3 approx. 10 MB in size.
